Reporting into our Chief Strategy Development Officer, the Head of Government &
Corporate Affairs will be responsible for elevating Helia's external presence with key stakeholders including media, Federal and State governments and relevant industry bodies.

The role will be responsible for all communication planning and execution as well as managing Helia's philanthropic agenda. This scope of this role reflects the opportunity to leverage the natural linkages between these functions to continue to build Helia's reputation as a thought leader in the mortgage market and to reinforce the critical role LMI plays in the lending eco system to enable home ownership in Australia.

Responsibilities

Corporate Affairs

  • Powerfully communicating Helia's strategy and value proposition both internally and externally, to enhance the company's reputation and elevate the perception of LMI with customers, investors, government and industry stakeholders and our own employees;

  • Amplifying Helia's brand and reputation through a variety of channels;

  • Developing and implementing a corporate affairs strategy that includes:

1. Content and approaches to respond to industry and corporate issues with the potential to impact Helia's reputation, positively or negatively, taking into account the perspectives of the relevant stakeholders;

2. Proactive stakeholder engagement through appropriate channels, including traditional and digital media;

3. Building andmanaging stakeholder relationships to create meaningful partnerships with industry and government stakeholders;

4. Public presentations and commentary on issues by the CEO, CFO and Chairman;

5. Developing and managing content for Helia's social media presence and dialogue, and the company's website.

  • Responsibility for leading and delivering the internal communications strategy including:

1. Ensuring all staff are focused and aligned to our strategy and communicating progress against our strategy

2. Identifying and developing the most effective ways to communicate and engage with Helia's employees, and seek their feedback;

3. Coordinatingemployee events including town halls and other forums at which the CEO / SLT communicate with employees and seek their feedback;

4. Leveraging the intranet for maximum employee engagement.

  • Working with the Commercial function to ensure business and product marketing and communications are consistent with Helia's brand positioning;

  • Working with People and Culture to ensure internal communications support is effective in engaging employees with our strategy and encouraging them to align their behaviour to our corporate culture and values.

Government and Regulatory Affairs

  • Driving the development of Helia's Government Affairs strategy at both the State and Federal level;

  • Monitoring and advising on the legislative and political environment and developments including:

  • Advocating Helia's policy positions to national policy makers

  • Preparing updates on major legislative / political events in a timely manner for distribution to all relevant stakeholders

  • Building and nurturing effective working relationships key external stakeholders

  • Advocating Helia's value proposition and policy positions to APRA and other policy makers;

  • Preparing submissions for consultations on key regulatory reforms, including commissioning supportive research and reports where appropriate.

Qualifications - Required

  • Previous experience managing an end-to-end corporate affairs / communications function in a listed organisation;

  • Demonstrated understanding of the Australian mortgage market, banking and insurance;

  • Strongunderstanding of public company communications regulation and practice including continuous disclosure obligations and ASX listing rules;

  • Demonstrated sound judgement and commercial acumen, with the ability to analyse and evaluate a wide range of information to solve problems, develop strategies and make decisions.

  • Strong experience of managing complex issues involving multiple stakeholders and which attract policymaker and media scrutiny.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Communications, Public Relations, Public Affairs / Policy, Journalism, Finance, Law or Economics;
    with postgraduate business qualifications desirable;

  • Superior oral and written communication skills and sound technical expertise across the breadth of the corporate affairs function;

  • Highlydeveloped interpersonal skills, including strong relationship development and management skills and the ability to influence key stakeholders, both internally and externally;

  • The ability to think strategically and demonstrate a high level of initiative by identifying opportunities and proactively following through to implementation;

  • The ability to effectively plan, organise and coordinate the activities of a team to ensure that goals are achieved with the highest quality of work possible within agreed timeframes;

  • Provenleadership and management capability, with experience in managing and developing a diverse team;

  • Strongattention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects and demands at a time.

Qualifications - Preferred

Strong existing relationships with relevant external stakeholders, particularly within government, industry bodies, financial services and the media.
