At HRG, we partner with major Utility Asset Owners and Tier 1 Engineering firms to help them better manage major infrastructure portfolios and deliver large-scale programs by placing high-impact people. We are working on major Energy, Renewable, and Communications Network roll-outs across Australia.
The Head of Engineering will play a crucial role in setting the strategic direction of the engineering department, fostering innovation, and driving significant transformation. This leadership position demands a proactive and strategic thinker who can not only envision future trends in structural utilities but also implement these visions to maintain and expand our client's market leadership.
What You'll Do:

Utilise your expertise in structural engineering and business leadership, to cast a vision, and implement change to modernise engineering functions. - Strategise and Optimise:
Develop a culture of engineering excellence and execute strategies that ensure assets are not just standing, but are future-proof and fit for purpose. - Collaborate:
Work with other departments like the charming diplomat you are, ensuring seamless project integration and top-notch results. - Mentor and Develop:
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of high-performing engineers, encouraging a culture of innovation and excellence. - Ensure Compliance:
Maintain and enhance compliance with the latest industry standards. - Represent and Lead:
Represent the company in industry forums and contribute to thought leadership in the field of structural utilities.
What You've Got:
- Expertise and Experience:
- A solid engineering and business leadership background where you have owned commercial outcomes.
- You've worked in an asset-heavy portfolio where you developed engineering into a competitive advantage.
- You understand that innovation, investment, and modernising engineering practices must be balanced with the commercial reality of heavy CAPEX investment, making ROI a key consideration.
- Leadership:
Proven experience in leading large teams. You're not just a manager;
you're a leader who inspires and motivates. - Innovation Spark:
A knack for driving innovative practices and rallying your teams to drive transformation projects. - Strategy:
You can see the big picture and the tiny details all at once. Planning and executing brilliant strategies is your forte. - Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, with a preference for Civil, Structural, or Mechanical. At least 10 years of experience in engineering, including a minimum of 5 years in strategic leadership roles within the utilities or related industries.
