The Role

Duties will vary according to the specialist outpatient clinic that the GPSI is working in and the agreed scope of work with the head of that unit, but may include:

  • Provide consultation and patient review within specialist outpatient clinics.
  • Participate in the effective triage of specialist outpatient wait lists.
  • Perform agreed procedures.
  • Coordinate individuals' clinical needs, including liaison with the patient's normal care team such as GP.
  • Participate in the ongoing review and development of the specialist outpatient clinic administrative supports and processes including templates guiding care and associated Tasmanian Health Pathways.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to the organisation's Quality &
    Safety and Work Health &
    Safety processes, including in the development and implementation of safety systems, improvement initiatives, safeguarding practices for vulnerable people, and related training.

Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award

A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiatedwith the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.

Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $210,000 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $288,000 with further salary increments available.

  • Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $291,472 - $301,349 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Allowance in lieu of motor vehicle currently set at $27,535 pro rata per annum, paid fortnightly (with CPI indexation on 1 July each year).
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,000 pro rata per annum.
  • On call allowance % of Base Salary.
  • All other allowances as per current Award.
  • And subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of Base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.

Other Benefits:

  • You will have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
  • You will also have access to accommodation and relocation costs.

Details of Appointment

Fixed term, part-time day work (with on-call), working 15.2 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible for 12 months.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.

  • Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
  • Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway;
    or
  • Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality.
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements)

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  • Conviction checks in the following areas:
  • Crimes of violence
  • Sex related offences
  • Serious drug offences
  • Crimes involving dishonesty
  • Disciplinary action in previous employment check
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners;
    or
  • Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine
  • Current and ongoing clinical practice in the community
