About the organisation
.Au Domain Administration Limited (auDA) is a not-for-profit organisation established by the Australian internet community to oversee the operation and management framework of the trusted top-level .Au domain. auDA is endorsed by the Commonwealth Government to ensure it is an open, secure, accessible and trusted Australian public asset for all internet users. auDA represents Australia's interests internationally and has an agreement with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the international body responsible for coordinating the Internet's naming and numbering systems.
About the role
The General Counsel leads auDA's legal function, providing legal advice internally and ensuring that auDA operates in accordance with its legal obligations. This includes supporting auDA's activities by ensuring legal issues, contracts, disputes and complex transactions are conducted within the due diligence of legal obligations, and the organisation's risk framework and appetite. Critical to this position will be informing senior managers and the Board of Directors of new or proposed legislation that may affect auDA. The General Counsel will act in negotiations and disputes with global multi-national companies, support relevant auDA staff on matters that impact the organisation's present and future activities, including engaging with Government and government departments on proposed regulatory changes. The appointee will also actively contribute to the ongoing development of a culture that embodies auDA's values and promotes a positive and safe environment for staff.
About you
You are a highly experienced and commercially astute lawyer with expertise in digital, technology, privacy, data protection and critical infrastructure law. Your track record in proficiently managing legal requirements that relate to the technology industry - including privacy, anti-spam, telecommunications and critical infrastructure regulations - are underpinned by your rigorous attention to corporate governance and regulatory compliance. Applying your commercial acumen, outstanding professional judgement and problem-solving capabilities, you have a history of success in negotiating with large multi-national organisations. A builder of relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, you possess highly developed interpersonal and influencing skills. A collaborative, engaging leader and trusted adviser who strives for excellence, you make a significant and holistic contribution to organisational objectives and culture.
