Gastroenterology and Hepatology Unit are looking for a Fellow to join their team. - Provision of inpatient and outpatient consultative services with an emphasis on patients with Disorders of Gut Brain Interaction (DGBI), Motility disorders and patients with inflammatory bowel disorders. - Actively participate in diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients with the above conditions who are under the care of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at registrar/fellow level. - To participate in clinical and translational research projects within the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

About the Role

  • Participate in the provision of the out of hours on call roster for clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology services at a registrar/fellow level. This commitment is generally on a 1 in 5-6 basis.
  • Participate in the training and supervision of registrars, resident medical officers and medical students as set out in the addendum, Registrar's Role as a Clinical Teacher.
  • Comply with and utilise procedures, organisational policies (including manual handling ), regulations and standards, which impact on the position including contemporary human resource management issues of workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination.
  • Fulfil the accountabilities and responsibilities of this role in accordance with Metro South's purpose and objectives, as outlined below.
  • To provide ethical decision making in the achievement of organizational goals.
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient care by assessing patients, determining and instigating appropriate investigations
  • Establish management plan for patients in consultation with the consultant
  • Where appropriate, ensure discharge planning commences early in the process of care (inpatients only)
  • Communicate assessment findings, proposed management plans and alternatives to patient and carers and seek consent
  • Gather input from appropriate multidisciplinary team for patient's ongoing clinical care
  • Continually monitor and review patient progress and adjust the management plan when necessary;
    and
  • Ensure appropriate and timely communication to the General Practitioner, other health care providers and carers to ensure ongoing patient care post hospital stay
  • Contribute and engage in activities that improve the quality and efficacy of care provided by quality improvement and research activities.
  • Attend tutorials, participate and present at grand rounds, attend compulsory courses, and participate in on-the-job training in order to meet college requirements and develop clinical knowledge and skills.
