Emphasising community preparedness, prevention, and response, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is a multifaceted organisation providing crucial services including fire and rescue, disaster management, Rural Fire Services, and State Emergency Services and extends support to other volunteer organisations engaged in emergency response efforts.

Purpose of the Role:

Frontline Solutions and Services manages and delivers business solutions and systems supporting QFR, State Operations, and RFSQ. The RFS IT Solutions team provides innovative technology solutions for rural fire capability and volunteers across Queensland, ensuring technology aligns with operational needs.

Reporting to the Director, you will lead the support and maintenance of mission-critical systems and information management services that enhance RFS frontline operations and organisational capability. This role ensures effective rural fire planning and response through technology such as geographical information systems and field coordination applications. It also ensures equitable access and high customer engagement for volunteers, engages with external service providers, provides strategic advice, and prepares the department for future system and platform needs.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead Development and Maintenance of Systems:
    Oversee the creation, implementation, and upkeep of business systems and services, ensuring they are fit for purpose and meet organisational needs.
  • Continuous Improvement of Critical Systems:
    Enhance key systems, such as geographical information and event response coordination systems, to support bushfire planning and response.
  • Provide Strategic ICT Advice:
    Offer strategic advice on major ICT and information management systems, ensuring effective system performance reporting to senior executives.
  • Manage External Support Vendors:
    Ensure third-party and external vendor performance aligns with business service level agreements through effective oversight.
  • Enhance User Experience and Ensure Compliance:
    Develop strategies and processes for continuous improvement, enhance user experience, manage unit functions efficiently, and ensure compliance with legislation and best practices.
  • Team Management:
    lead team functions through effective human resource and financial management, including staff development through performance planning and review.

Highly desirable skills and experience:

  • 5+ years managing teams, supporting mission critical software and information systems using metrics and continuous improvement to develop strategies to improve service delivery and reduce support calls.
  • Experience with ITIL service management practices and processes to deliver services in a highly responsive environment.
  • Experience in leading effective demand management, project management and the software development lifecycle within an agile environment.

Special requirements

This role may require work to be performed out-of-business hours and in response to managing an operational service team within a 24 x 7 critical ICT business environment.
