About Us

Defence SA is a cornerstone economic development agency withinthe South Australian Government, dedicated to fostering growth inthe defence and space sectors. Led by the Chief Executive, who alsoheads Veterans SA, the South Australian Space Industry Centre, andthe Defence Innovation Partnership, our agency operates as aunified team to champion and promote economic growth in the defenceand space industries.

Role Purpose/Context:

This key role is accountable for providing executive andstrategic leadership to identify and develop sustainable defencesector business initiatives to increase Defence sector in SouthAustralia.

The role is also accountable for writing and implementing theState's defence industry strategy while understanding theskills, training, infrastructure, industry, and policy requirementsneeded to support a sustainable Defence and space industry.

The Executive Director Defence and Industry will be responsiblefor:

  • leading and managing the Defence and Industry team toincrease defence and space industry presence in SouthAustralia;
  • implementing and improving business development activities,including strategies and plans for:
    land, air, maritime, cyber,space domains and aerospace and science and technology;
  • understanding skills, training, infrastructure and policyrequirements in the named disciplines to support a sustainableadvanced defence systems and capabilities industry.

In addition, to succeed in this role, you willneed:

  • Strong program and/or portfolio management experience withstrategic vision and thought leadership skills, the ability todevelop and motivate a high performing team, the financialacumen to deliver projects to budget, and outstandingstakeholder and partnership skills that will enable you tointeract with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and bewilling to represent Defence SA at a number of speakingengagements.

Special Conditions

The successful applicant must have the ability to obtain aminimum NV1 security clearance and a willingness to undertake theprocess to obtain an NV2 / PV security clearance if required.Therefore all applicants must be Australian Citizens or be eligibleto apply for Australian Citizenship immediately.

This is a contract / term vacancy up to 36 months. The incumbentis required to enter into an annual performance agreement. Workoutside of normal hours will be required as will intrastate,interstate and possible overseas travel involving overnightabsences. A current Australian driver's licence isrequired.

Essential Qualifications

A relevant degree, postgraduate qualification and/or formalmanagement qualification is highly desirable.
