About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic Executive Director, Bus Services to join our Public Transport division. This pivotal role involves leading multi-skilled teams in the comprehensive management of bus services across both Metropolitan and Regional networks. The Executive Director will be responsible for ensuring the seamless operation of bus services, focusing on delivering cost-effective and efficient solutions.

The successful candidate will oversee the high-quality delivery of public transport bus infrastructure and services. This includes managing bus stop construction, maintenance, rolling stock asset management, and asset performance. Additionally, the role involves leading a team of commercially and contractually focused staff to ensure the effective franchise management of all Metropolitan bus contracts, including the procurement of new bus services.

The primary objective of this role is to guarantee the efficient and cost-effective delivery of quality public transport bus infrastructure and services throughout the Melbourne Metropolitan and Regional networks. Position Outcomes

The Executive Director, Bus Services will provide leadership across the bus industry, focusing on driving continuous improvement in key performance metrics such as safety, service delivery, punctuality, customer satisfaction, patronage growth, and fare compliance. The role will involve managing delicate industrial issues across various operators and overseeing commercial negotiations for over 34 separate contracts delivering bus services across metropolitan Melbourne, with an annual budget of $800M. The Executive Director will also be responsible for successfully implementing and maintaining contract management plans for all services, ensuring operator compliance with key performance indicators and major deliverables.

Working closely with the Department, the Executive Director will ensure that bus planning and service requirements are integrated into all public transport projects, including rail and light rail initiatives. As the face of the metropolitan and regional bus network, the Executive Director will engage with community members and stakeholders to advocate for bus improvements and handle media enquiries as needed. This role will also involve collaborating with the senior leadership team to support the strategic planning process and deliver departmental priorities, as well as working with Network Operations Teams to coordinate responses to emergency incidents affecting the bus network.
