The Systems Assurance and Data Analytics Group (SADA) provides support and services to the ANAO's financial statements and performance audit groups, and Corporate Management Group. SADA comprises of approximately 45 staff who work in teams specialising in either IT systems and controls assurance or in data analytics. Within SADA, the Systems Assurance Team consists of approximately 30 staff, with backgrounds encompassing professions such as project management, cyber security, information technology, finance and accounting.
The opportunity
As an EL2 Senior Director in the Systems Assurance and Data Analytics Group, under the broad guidance of the Group Executive Director/Executive Director, you will:

  • Lead and manage a work area responsible for undertaking IT audit assignments (to support performance, financial statements and performance statements auditing);
  • Exercise quality control and a high level of professional and technical expertise in completing your own work and in reviewing the work of junior staff;
  • Provide significant professional and technical advice on a range of IT risks and audit issues;
  • Develop high performing teams, including mentoring, guiding and supporting professional development of staff;
  • Participate in the strategic management of the work area and the development of strategic solutions;
  • Contribute significantly to the setting and achievement of organisational objectives;
    and
  • Manage professional relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including ANAO senior management, audit entity management, peer auditing organisations, standards development organisations and professional forums.

The work is characterised by:

  • A high level of autonomy and responsibility;
  • Tasks that generally have a high level of complexity;
  • Decision makingwithin legislative frameworks, auditing standards, ANAO audit methodology, and consistent with internal operating policies and procedures;
  • A significant management and supervisory component;
  • Close professional relationships with Committees of Parliament, Audit Committees, auditee agency management and other stakeholders relevant for the role;
    and
  • Representation at senior levels on behalf of the ANAO.

Who we are looking for
The successful candidate will preferably have the following:

  • Demonstrated experience in leading IT audits in high risk and complex environments;
  • Ability to assess and develop responses to risks in IT systems that are relevant to the preparation and audit of financial and performance reporting;
  • Ability to develop innovative and practical solutions that are rigorous, defensible and aligned to the ANAO's strategic direction;
  • Demonstrated team leadership and staff development skills;
  • Demonstrated project or operational management skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information simply and effectively to a non-technical audience;
  • Verbal and written ability to communicate at all levels, including with senior executives and officials;
  • Demonstrated negotiation and persuasion skills to effectively communicate risks and audit findings;
    and
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to foster good working relationships with stakeholders and the ability to deliver an effective and professional service to clients.

Desirable qualifications
There are no mandatory qualifications for this role. However, the following attributes are highly desirable:

  • Degree or higher qualification in Information Technology, Information Systems, Information Management or other relevant qualifications;
  • Relevant professional qualifications such as CISA, CISSP, CA and/or CPA;
  • Experience in planning, managing and undertaking IT audits or other types of audits;
  • Superior IT technical and IT audit skills;
  • Detailed understanding of the impact of IT on key business processes, auditing standards and relevant IT standards;
  • Detailed knowledge of audit risk methodologies and/or benchmarking practices;
    and
  • Demonstrated skills in project or task management including planning, leading and managing technical IT audits.

Eligibility
Citizenship - to be eligible for employment with the ANAO, applicants must be an Australian citizen.
Security Clearance - The Australian community requires the highest level of integrity from ANAO employees. The preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified above.
