About the role

The occupant of this position will hold a dual role, as both the Executive Director, Finance, Investment &
Procurement and the as and the Department's Chief Financial Officer.

As Chief Financial Officer (CFO) you will report to the Deputy Secretary, Budget and Finance within the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) and will be accountable for developing and leading the financial management of DJSIR, ensuring effective management of the Department's budget priorities and build the CFO profile as a trusted financial leader. The CFO is also required to ensure compliance with all statutory Departmental and professional standards including the Financial Management Act and the Directions of the Minister for Finance, Australian Accounting Standards, all Australian (State and Federal) tax legislation and policies and procedures of the Central Agencies.

As Executive Director, Finance, Investment and Procurement you will report to the Deputy Secretary, Corporate Services within the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions (DJSIR) and will be accountable for leading financial management, the development and implementation of the budget and procurement policies, that effectively support of DJSIR's outcomes and meet the legislative and government reporting requirements. You will be responsible for providing expert and strategic advice to Ministers, the Secretary, the Executive Board, and other senior stakeholders across all areas of responsibility. This critical leadership position will forge partnerships and collaborate effectively to positively influence outcomes and facilitate the achievement of strategic and operational goals. You will lead and influence major budget and procurement initiatives and provide expert advice on improvement and efficiency initiatives across Corporate Services and the Department. Together with your team, you will also contribute to the implementation of strategic objectives of DJSIR.

About you

For this 5 month opportunity, we are seeking applications from candidates with:

  • Strong executive experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams formulating strategy and delivery of innovative and cost-effective policies and programs in a complex operating environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of financial principles, priorities and processes within government.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the proven ability to collaborate with peers, build a positive team culture, provide effective financial and people management and role model the DJPR values.
