About the Role
The Director, Strategic Medical Operations Unit is responsible for leading and driving medical locum reform across the NSW Health system. This includes leading research and feasibility studies into a state wide best practice approach to management of contingent medical workforce supply, including the utilisation and engagement of locum doctors. This will necessitate analysis of the contingent workforce market, system solutions to strengthen practice and reduce expedenditure associated with contingent workforce, and overseeing the roll out of a vendor management system in conjunction with the Workforce Governance Unit in the Ministry of Health.

The Director will lead the provision of expert advice on demand management, price thresholds and agency performance management, and market research on systems and offerings in other jurisdictions related to the provision of locum services and reducing locum spend.

The Director will consider the merits and opportunities for NSW Health to play a role in the management of medical locums, and other health workforces as appropriate, for consideration of the Executive and ensure such considerations align with industrial and legal obligations, clearly articulate strategic and operational risks and are based on robust financial modelling.
