About the team

The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) (DVC Research) oversees research policy, postgraduate education, quality, impact, infrastructure, industry liaison, and intellectual property. The DVC (Research) manages institutes and services, while the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) provides strategic leadership for central research infrastructure, supported by the Director of Research Infrastructure and teams in the Office of Research, aligning with UWA's values.

About the opportunity

Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) and leading a team, you will manage operations and business development related to UWA's Research Infrastructure Centres (RICs), providing strategic and operational leadership and advice on UWA's research core infrastructure to senior executives.

The RICs reporting to this position include (but are not restricted to) Animal Care Services, a service-based infrastructure;
and Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation and Analysis (CMCA), GinGin Observatory and Ridgefield Farm, a technical equipment-based infrastructure.

You will be managing UWA central/core RICs within the Research portfolio, collaborating with the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) and the Head of Technical Services, and representing UWA's research infrastructure capabilities externally and within the industry. The role does not have operational responsibility for School-based research infrastructure. Working closely with the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) and in partnership with the Head of Technical Services, the role will contribute to the development and implementation of university-wide strategies to optimise core RIC investment and research opportunities.

About you

To be considered for this opportunity, you will possess extensive experience in the higher education sector with a focus on research and/or research infrastructure. You will have in-depth understanding of higher education research funding and the crucial role of world-class research infrastructure along with practical experience in ensuring compliance with national codes and frameworks. An understanding of procurement, contracting, and maintenance processes related to research infrastructure, coupled with a demonstrated capability to effectively manage substantial financial resources.
