We are seeking a proactive, energetic and agile Director to join our diverse and inclusive Rail Planning Team at the Department of Transport and Main Roads. In therole of Director (Rail Planning) you you will lead a highly skilled and multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of complex rail planning projects, encompassing passenger,freight and long-distance rail.

You will be responsible for long term network visioning and strategy and be skilled in leading delivery of detailed investigations for individual planning projects through the Project Assessment Framework (PAF).

You will be required to develop partnerships with key stakeholders, including within TMR and across government to successfully deliver a program of high-priority rail planning projects.

Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Providing strategic and operational support to the Executive Director (Transport Planning Projects), General Manager (Transport Strategy and Planning), and Deputy Director-General (Policy, Planning and Investment) to ensure the successful execution of state-wide rail planning projects, coordinating with central agencies, TMR Regional Offices, and Translink Division.
- Building and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and representing TMR in various working groups, forums and committees.
- Providing high level technical advice and guidance in relation to rail planning and/or rail planning studies being undertaken by the team, other parts of TMR and/or external parties.
- Ensure planning activities include community, industry and government
stakeholder consultation in accordance with TMR requirements.
- Developing and maintaining 'leading edge' rail planning knowledge and capability within TMR.

To thrive in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:
- A degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline such as town planning, transport planning, civil engineering, or a related discipline would be highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience as a strategic thinker and problem solver, including in the context of land use and transport planning.
- Proven experience in building relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to establish, maintain and lead a high-performing team in a changing environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail, written and verbal communication skills.
- Good knowledge and understanding or ability to acquire knowledge and understanding rail planning issues, trends, challenges, and opportunities.
