Impact the changing landscape of work-based psychological health in Queensland!
With the recent amendments to the Work Health and Safety Regulation and introduction of the Managing the risk of psychosocial hazards at work Code of Practice, this role will be well placed to help Queensland take an important step forward in keeping workplaces safe, healthy and productive.
As Director, Psychological Health you will:
- Lead the design, development and implementation of the department's strategy to support thriving workplaces across Queensland.
- Provide expert specialist advice to the Minister, Deputy Director-General and Senior Executives of OIR regarding highly complex issues.
- Have responsibility for managing ongoing initiatives and developing high quality evidence-based programs and services that improve workplace mental health outcomes.

The Psychological Health Unit (PHU) delivers on national and state priorities to address psychological harm and injury at work and sits within Queensland's health and safety regulator, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland within Office of Industrial Relations (OIR).

Responsibilities include:

- Provide expert direction and guidance to improve the department's services, programs and initiatives related to workplace mental health.
- Lead and direct teams and undertake research, planning and analysis of workplace mental health initiatives to support whole of government, national and OIR activities.
- Advise the Executive Director, Deputy Director-General, Director-General, and Minister concerning trends, potential risks and emerging workplace mental health matters and drive the department's input into whole-of-government and national activities that can inform decision making and future directions.
- Liaise with a range of internal and external senior officers to achieve a range of outcomes and build healthy and productive stakeholder networks.
- Represent OIR and Workplace Health and Safety Queensland at high-level government, standards development and industry forums where professional qualifications and expert technical knowledge are necessary.
- Provide leadership and direction of the PHU, ensuring their health, safety and wellbeing and managing the unit's strategic governance, human resources, finances with a strong understanding of, (or ability to acquire an understanding) relevant departmental policies, procedures and legislation.

About you

To succeed in this pivotal position, the successful incumbent must demonstrate a track record of leading the implementation of a wide range of complex initiatives or reforms related to workplace mental health with an exceptional ability to engage and influence across public and private sectors in a variety of forums. Your leadership should be well honed and articulated by the achievement of significant leadership outcomes achieved within resource-constrained and complex environments. Lastly, your analytical, writing and presentation skills should be exemplary, with high level capability in preparation and delivery of reports, submissions, strategy documents and public communication materials regarding complex strategic issues.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must possess a four-year degree in a health-related field from an accredited tertiary institution, noting that a Masters or Doctoral degree in Organisational Psychology (or similar) is also highly regarded.
