Director, Office of the Executive Director Pathology Queensland

We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic leader to fill the role of Director, Office of the Executive Director Pathology Queensland for this new exciting position within our establishment. This role will provide both strategic leadership and management of executive services for Pathology Queensland and will provide a conduit between the Office of the Executive Director and the Offices of the Deputy Director-General QPHaSS, and the QPHaSS leadership team.To be successful you will have the ability to lead and motivate teams towards achieving strategic objectives and will build excellent working relationships both with internal and external stakeholders while navigating a collaborative and inclusive working environment using great communication and your experience in negotiation and engagement.

Working closely with the executive leadership team, the Director plays a key role in planning processes and ensures delivery of strategic initiatives that optimise services, drives strategy and ensures that all functions are supported by appropriate policy, professional standards and good governance.

Actively engage with the Executive Leadership Team to ensure there is a forward-looking focus on organisational priorities and that these are reflected in leadership team discussions.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

  • Extensive experience in providing sensitive, confidential and complex support and advice to executive management within large complex public sector organisations.
  • High-level problem-solving skills and the capacity to analyse and integrate information from diverse sources to provide concise, accurate and appropriate information.
  • Experience in leading and managing divisional services including financial, human resources, correspondence, executive support and governance functions.
  • Detailed understanding of Queensland Health, or a similarly large organisation, its functions, organisational arrangements and priorities in providing excellence in the delivery of health services to Queenslanders.
  • A sound knowledge of the strategic challenges facing pathology (clinical and coronial) services and public and environmental health services and demonstrable experience in service planning, professional standard development, and policy change.
  • Experience in navigating through complex administrative and policy environments and engaging and influencing stakeholders to effectively deliver required outcomes.
  • Proven ability to build effective working relationships with executive team members and peers who are not in the line of command and that positively impact business performance.
  • Expert interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills and the demonstrated ability to foster effective and productive relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated capacity to liaise, mediate and negotiate with all levels of staff and with a range of stakeholders in a sensitive and confidential manner.

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

  • While not mandatory, a tertiary degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field will be well regarded.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in business administration, public sector management or equivalent are highly desirable.
  • Travel may be a requirement of this role. Therefore, the ability to operate a class C vehicle and an appropriate licence endorsement is required. Some intrastate and interstate travel may also be required.
  • It may be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment ( Health Employment Directive No. 01/16 (PDF) ):
    measles, mumps, rubella (MMR),varicella (chicken pox), pertussis (whooping cough),hepatitis B, tuberculosis.
