An exciting opportunity is available for a highly experienced and enthusiastic palliative care physician and leader for the role as Director Palliative Care at Austin Health. This is a joint clinical/management role to provide professional and adminstrative leadership to deliver excellence in clinical care, research and teaching to a large Palliative Care Service at Austin Health.

About the department:

Palliative Care Services, based at the Olivia Newton-John Centre (ONJ Centre) at the Austin Hospital, provides specialist palliative care to patients with cancer and any other life limiting illness. This includes via a 24-bed specialist inpatient Palliative Care Unit, a Palliative Care Consultancy service to inpatients across Austin Health, a specialist Palliative Care Clinic, a Palliative Care acute community inreach service (with visits to patients' residence or residential aged care facility), Palliative Care trials and clinical research, and liaising with Community Palliative Care Service providers. The ONJ Centre is a comprehensive cancer centre including oncology, clinical haematology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology and wellness and supportive care programs.

As the the Director Palliative Care you must be/have:

  • A registered Medical Practitioner in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • A current Fellowship of the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (FAChPM) or equivalent;
  • A current membership of a medical indemnity organisation;
  • Appropriate training and experience in the field of Palliative Medicine, Community Health and Medical Oncology;
  • A proven recordof excellence in palliative care service delivery with a demonstrated commitment to continued improvement;
  • Demonstrated capability and interest in research;
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching;
