The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) provides health services for a population of around 400,000 including the local government areas of Wollongong, Kiama, Shellharbour and Shoalhaven.

The Illawarra Hospitals Group (IHG) encompasses Wollongong, Shellharbour, Bulli and Coledale Hospitals.

Wollongong Hospital is the major referral and teaching hospital with a bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.

Shellharbour Hospital, is a busy acute care facility which provides emergency services, elective surgical services, general medical, antenatal and primary family health care, satellite renal dialysis with adolescent and adult mental health services on site. This new hospital will play a significant role in the District's service network and will be a much larger and more capable hospital. Work has commenced on the new Shellharbour Hospital. On completion, it will:
become the District's specialist elective surgical services centre with state-of-the-art theatres and continue to be the District's centre for specialist inpatient mental health care.

Bulli Hospital and Aged Care Centre has 110 aged care, palliative care and rehabilitation beds and an Urgent Care Centre which open seven days per week.

Coledale Hospital specialises in rehabilitation and aged care services. It has a purpose-built unit for patients with a dementia illness awaiting nursing home placement.

Wollongong is located an hour's drive south of Sydney on a narrow coastal strip bordered by the Royal National Park to the north, Lake Illawarra to the south, the Tasman Sea to the east and the Illawarra Escarpment to the west. As Director Medical Services (DMS) IHG, you will be well supported by your DMS/medical administration colleagues and the IHG Executive. You will enjoy a broad role which encompasses medical leadership, mentoring, clinical governance, patient safety and opportunities for research and education.

You will:
1. Work as a key member of the medical services and clinical governance and IHG leadership team providing strategic clinical and operational leadership
2. Lead medical workforce management and enhance a collaborative and patient centred culture
3. Lead clinical governance systems, standards, performance and accreditation

We are seeking an experienced medical administrator with a track record of leading change across a complex health system. The person will require excellent communication skills and experience in clinical governance, patient safety, strategic planning and clinical operations. We will consider a RACMA fellow, those expecting FRACMA in the next six months, or a significantly experienced clinical leader from other medical specialties.
