We are seeking a proactive, energetic and agile Director to join our diverse and inclusive Major Planning Projects Team at the Department of Transport and Main Roads. In the role of Director (Major Planning Projects) you will manage a team of transport planners, engineers and contractors that deliver, and provide advice on, major multi-modal transport planning projects.

In the role of Director, you will lead the delivery of major multi-modal planning projects. The Major Planning Projects planning team typically delivers projects using the Project Assessment Framework (PAF). PAF is a whole-of-government project assessment process that establishes a common approach to assessing projects at critical stages in their lifecycle. Its aim is to maximise the benefits returned to government from project investments. In TMR, the PAF is to be utilised for projects with a value over $100 million and / or projects that have a high level of risk and complexity.
You will lead/work with a team of transport planning professionals that are delivering major planning projects and provide strategic direction on Government strategy and policies. You will be required to develop partnerships with key stakeholders, including within TMR and across government to successfully deliver high-priority planning projects.

Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the development and on-going management of complex transport planning projects.
- Provide strategic and operational support to the Executive Director (Transport Planning Projects), General Manager (Transport Strategy and Planning), and Deputy Director-General (Policy, Planning and Investment) to ensure the successful execution of state wide and national planning projects, coordinating with central agencies, TMR Regional Offices, and Translink Division.
- Lead and manage a program of key planning investigations, major corridor assessments, ensuring thorough analysis, stakeholder engagement, and alignment with strategic goals.
- Building and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and representing TMR in various working groups, forums and committees.

- A degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline such as town planning, transport planning, civil engineering, or a related discipline would be highly desirable.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
transport planning, project management and stakeholder engagement.
- Proven experience in building relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to establish, maintain and lead a high-performing team in a changing environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail, written and verbal communication skills.
