Director, Impact And Learning

The Director, Impact and Learning leads a team that provides ex-ante and ex-post impact assessments in support of the strategic direction of ACIAR;
informs ACIAR investment decision making to ensure maximisation of impact;
and produces evidence to promote the impact of ACIAR investments to a diverse range of stakeholders.
The Director will lead a portfolio of impact assessments framed within the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the requirements of the Australian Government International Development Policy and ACIAR's strategy. ACIAR is particularly focused on areas of impact in climate change, nutrition and gender equity and social inclusion (and the intersectionality of these outcomes) in international agricultural development. These areas of impact focus also establish the structure of the Impact and Learning Team.
The Director will engage effectively and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders both within Australia and internationally. The Director will be expected to work closely with ACIAR teams focused on bilateral and multilateral research and capacity development and identify and commission impact assessments to inform investment in these areas. The Director will also work closely with ACIAR's leadership team across Research, Partnerships and Corporate to ensure effective communication of ACIAR's impact with Australian and international stakeholders, and to promote ACIAR's contribution to international agricultural development.
The key duties of the position include
The Director, Impact and Learning will be required to:

1. Lead a small team of analysts in impact areas to manage ACIAR's impact assessments and review externally undertaken impact assessments of ACIAR's research and capacity development investments.
2. Develop and implement effective frameworks and methodologies for the evaluation of ACIAR's research and capacity development investments, ensuring these frameworks align with the Sustainable Development Goals, Australian Government International Development Policy and ACIAR strategy.
3. Collaborate with all areas of ACIAR to identify and manage the appropriate and required performance measures to contribute to government reporting, compliance and accountability requirements relevant to impact, including Portfolio Budget Statements, Annual Reports and climate finance reporting.
4. Collaborate effectively with ACIAR's Outreach team and with partners to communicate the impact of ACIAR's past, current and future investments, and to highlight ACIAR's contribution to international agricultural development.
5. Lead ACIAR's engagement with key institutions in impact assessment and maintain collaborations and capacities with partner countries and institutions in understanding impacts from research for development assessments.
6. Contribute evidence-based insights and provide likely economic, social and environmental impacts to ensure ACIAR's research and capacity development investments maximise expected impacts and are an efficient and effective use of resources.
7. Contribute to the development and implementation of policies related to ACIAR's research and capacity development investment areas, ensuring alignment with global best practices and Australian Government guidelines.
8. Provide strategic guidance in investment meetings to ensure ACIAR's investments are contributing to the broader agenda of the Australian Government through ACIAR's contribution to the international development policy and the SDGs.
9. Manage the budget for the Impact and Learning team, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently and effectively towards achieving desired outcomes.
10. Be an active member of the ACIAR team, promoting engagement across ACIAR to facilitate a safe, inclusive, high performing and innovative culture. Lead by example in providing commitment and integrity, consistently uphold the APS values, actively embrace, and manage risks and exhibit resilience in the face of challenges.
