Director - Environmental Offsets Full-Time Permanent

Details:
The Environmental Offsets team sits within the Parks and Partnerships business unit within PCS. It is responsible for delivering commitments linked with development approvals pursuant to the Commonwealth Government Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.

Environmental offsets compensate for the impact on matters of national environmental significance (MNES) from development. Environmental offsets are additional land that will be protected from future development and managed to maintain or enhance the MNES in accordance with the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation ACT 1999.

Environmental offset sites also protect other natural and cultural values including locally threatened species and indigenous and historic heritage values.

This position is tasked with managing a diverse team of planners and ecologists responsible for guiding the establishment and management of new reserves in accordance with environmental offset approval conditions.

The role is suited to someone who displays:

• A drive for positive conservation outcomes in highly complex work environments
• Excellent record keeping and organisational skills;
  
• Exceptional time management skills, specifically for meeting tight deadlines;
  and
• Exceptionalinterpersonal skills, including negotiation and relationship management.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

Mandatory

• Registration under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011.
• Willingness to participate in fire standby, fire suppression and fire training.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and standard operational procedures as they apply to environmental offset approval processes and conservation land management.
• Tertiary qualifications in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science or equivalent.
