How you'll make a difference:

The Deputy Chief Aboriginal Health Adviser Aboriginal Priority Projects and Reform provides senior advice and leadership to drive the delivery of key Aboriginal health and wellbeing priority initiatives and system reform, including supporting the Treaty process for the department. The role will drive the implementation of Aboriginal health and wellbeing strategic priorities ensuring a whole of department approach and accountability is established to deliver on Aboriginal community and community-controlled sector identified outcomes and enable sustained systemic change.

The role provides specialist knowledge, public health advice, sector and inter-sector leadership on critical strategies and represents the department at all levels of government, health and wellbeing sector and Aboriginal community-controlled sector. The role will identify opportunities through strategic insight and forward planning, system mapping and the utilisation of health system levers to enact change.

The role involves developing effective relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders including other government agencies, health services and key Aboriginal health organisation and a range of program and policy areas within the department.

The successful applicant will demonstrate sound leadership and people management skills, as well as an ability to influence others to maximise efficiency and effectiveness of the Victorian health workforces and improve outcomes for Victorians.

Suitable applicants will be able to demonstrate:

Cultural Knowledge and expertise including the ability to identify emerging issues, trends and potential risks that impact upon Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Demonstrated experience and understanding of working with Aboriginal organisations and Aboriginal community.

A strong understanding of the Victorian health system, and knowledge of the department and its operating processes and information systems is essential.
