The Role
If you are looking for a new opportunity, are motivated and would like to challenge yourself, this is the job for you! Navy are seeking a highly motivated EL 2 Data Director - Navy (DD-N) to join our dynamic team.
As the DD-N, you will be responsible for developing and implementing Data and Information (D&
I) management and analytics strategies and initiatives to enhance Navy's knowledge management capabilities. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that the right data is captured, shared, and utilised effectively to improve decision-making, innovation, and business outcomes.
The DD-N will functionally align Navy's information management and data (knowledge management) compliance with the Defence Data Strategy. They will manage and direct Navy's strategic D&
I management and analytics programs as delegated by Deputy Chief of Navy (DCN) and the Director General ERP - Navy (DGERP-N), under Navy Outcome 5.
The duties are aligned with the EL 2 Data Director within the Information and Knowledge Management Job Family.
Implementing the Defence Data Strategy into Navy as a platform to establish and embed a cohesive Navy knowledge, information and data management function will require the DD-N role to engage across the Navy enterprise. This engagement will assist Navy standardise its business and will include implementing arrangements for the upkeep, update and upgrade of knowledge, information and data management and analytics capabilities.
About our Team
Defence Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is a major Defence transformation program that will change the way the Australian Defence Organisation does business. The ERP Branch within Navy Headquarters supports Deputy Chief of Navy with the development and implementation of the Defence ERP solution into the Navy organisation.
This includes the aforementioned Navy D&
I Management and data analytic programs and capabilities. The Data Synchronisation directorate is an integrated team of military, Australian Public Servants and contractors that provide governance and assurance support to Director General Enterprise Resource Planning-Navy.
The Data Synchronisation directorate consists of existing small integrated teams newly restructured under the leadership of the Data Director - Navy position to align with emerging Navy and Defence outcomes. These teams engage with many stakeholders within Navy and Defence to achieve best practice within Navy and champion Navy's interests within Defence.
Navy's compliance with the Defence Data Strategy aligns with all teams within the directorate requiring the Director's leadership and management for incorporation into business processes.
Our Ideal Candidate
The DD-N will be Navy's functional lead of D&
I management and data governance. The DD-N will focus on ensuring the successful implementation of the Defence Data Strategy in Navy to achieve the required level of consistency, quality and protection to meet Navy's business needs.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and experience at the Director level:

  • Strong understanding of D&
    I management and analytics principles, practices, and technologies;
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement D&
    I management and analytics strategies and initiatives that drive business outcomes;
  • Ability to workcollaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Familiarity with D&
    I management tools and systems, including analytical, databases, intranets, and collaboration platforms;
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations related to D&
    I management.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement D&
    I management and analytics strategies, policies, and procedures to improve Navy's knowledge management capabilities, to manage and share knowledge across Navy;
  • Develop and maintain a collaborative working relationship across Defence Knowledge, Data and Data Analyst Directors, specifically in the CDIO's organization;
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify knowledge gaps and develop solutions to capture and share knowledge effectively;
  • Provide leadership and support to D&
    I management and analytics projects and initiatives;
  • Analyse very complex problems to identify and recommend alternative courses of action and opportunities for continuous improvement;
  • Develop and assist in increasing data literacy by delivering training programs to enhance D&
    I management and analytical skills across Navy;
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to leverage best practices, representing Navy's interests, in D&
    I management and analytics to identify opportunities for continuous improvement;
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of D&
    I management and analytic programs and initiatives and make recommendations for improvement;
  • Provide thoughtleadership on emerging trends and technologies in D&
    I management and analytics.
