Mercy Community Services is a long-established Catholic aged care and community services organisation delivering services throughout Queensland. Its mission is to support and inspire people in need to live healthy connected lives within inclusive communities. It delivers programs and services that cater for all ages, circumstances and seasons of life, in key areas of Residential Aged Care and Community Services. The promotion of the CFO to be the CEO has created this vacancy.

As CFO, you will be responsible for the finance, information technology and property functions. Drive these three functions, so they provide an exceptional level of service that aides the operational business units to make quicker and more impactful decisions to deliver the ambitious strategic plan. You will proactively advise the CEO, Executive team and Board, using your financial and commercial acumen, to make insightful recommendations.

The key challenges to address include:

  • Overseeing and driving a major IT transformation for a fit for purpose systems architecture;
  • Gaining an in-depth knowledge of the key service streams drivers and ensure meaningful financial reports and analysis are provided on a timely basis leading to more efficient and productive service delivery;
  • Developing with the property manager, a transformational property development strategy to meet strategic business imperatives;
  • Ensuring compliance with all financial and operational regulations by seeking ways to improve how compliance is recorded across the service streams;
  • Establishing strong collaborative working relationships with the Executive team to support delivery of the ambitious strategic growth plans;
    and
  • Building cohesive working partnerships with the CEO, and broader Executive and Management team, so you become the trusted inhouse advisor on commercial and financial matters.


A seasoned forward-thinking, visionary finance professional who possesses significant practical Executive/ Managerial experience is desired. Prior aged care, community services or property industry experience will be well regarded, but not necessarily essential. If you have successfully managed significant IT transformation projects to be delivered on time and within budget this would be an advantage.

Your career should demonstrate experience in balancing strategic, commercial and financial imperatives to successfully provide sound advice to operational leaders. A dynamic CA/CPA leader who can respond to a rapidly changing environment in a considered and thoughtful manner and can articulate what is needed will succeed here. You thrive on challenging the status quo and understand the nuances and drivers of a Not for Profit, faith-based business. A genuine leader capable of making the tough commercially pragmatic decisions in an empathetic, caring manner is required.
