With campuses in Box Hill, Lilydale and Melbourne's CBD, Box Hill Institute (BHI) delivers professional education across the secondary, vocational education and training (VET) and higher education sectors.

BHI offers a diverse range of courses to students, businesses and community groups. In Victoria, they also deliver training and services in many workplace locations. BHI values the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with industry and businesses to create job-specific courses and facilities.

The education sector has experienced fundamental change over recent years, due to the pandemic and government reform across the sector.

As a result, there is a significant opportunity for BHI to transform the delivery of its education services into the future, into its 100th year.


TAFE Institutes are regulated by a range of enabling State legislation and as a public entity the Institute must comply with a range of whole of government laws and policies.

As part of a national vocational and education system, TAFEs are also regulated by Commonwealth legislation relating to international students and training quality assurance.


The role of the Board is to ensure that the TAFE it governs carries out its mission and achieves its stated objectives prudently, sustainably, ethically and in accordance with relevant laws, regulations and government policy.

The BHI Board currently has 9 Directors, the majority are appointed by the Minister, the Board appoints a number of Directors (co-opted directors) and an elected staff director and Chief Executive complete the Board.

This role is a co-opted appointment.
The Board of BHI are seeking to fill 3 Co-opted Non-Executive Directors with demonstrated experience in the following areas:

  • Education VET and/ or dual sector experience.
  • Management or Business experience leading organisations with strong Local community networks within the Box Hill catchment.
  • Trades executive level experience with a strong understanding of apprenticeships.
  • Transformation experience leading transformation projects in technology and/or business.


As an experienced Board Director, you will oversee all aspects of governance and understand the importance of collaboration and have a commercial and strategic mindset.

An understanding and previous experience working on Board or public sector Boards would be highly regarded.
