Roads ACT is seeking a highly motivated person, with suitable qualifications and the ability to work autonomously or with minimal direction, to perform the role of Assistant Director, Temporary Traffic Management Design and Planning, within the Network Operations team.
Road Network Operations is a small team whose primary responsibility is to contribute to safer and more efficient travel for road users. This includes traffic incident detection, incident management, traffic control design and planning, traffic control authorisation and event management.
Roads ACT is responsible for the management of the territorial and municipal roads, national highways, the community paths, driveways, stormwater system, bridges, carpark facilities, traffic signals, streetlights, and associated infrastructure. Roads ACT manage these assets on behalf of the ACT Government for the enjoyment of the Canberra community.
This role is responsible for the planning and design of Temporary Traffic Management plans for planned and unplanned events/incidents on the road network. This includes special events, traffic incidents, police operations, etc. The role involves contribution to the development and implementation of policy, procedure and technical documents relating to Network Operations activities. The role requires well developed communication skills to ensure appropriate messaging is provided to consultants, event organisers, contractors;
TCCS senior managers and Executives.

Eligibility/Other requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering - highly desirable
  • Eligible for Chartered status or equivalent with Engineers Australia (CPEng) or Professionals Australia (RPEng) - highly desirable.
  • Extensive experience (10+ years) of temporary traffic design;
    road design, traffic management, road safety- highly desirable.
  • Traffic Management Plan Designer (PWZ) - essential.
  • CAD Drafting experience - desirable.
  • Experienced in Rapid Plan or similar software - desirable.
  • CPCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry - highly desirable or the ability to attain during the probation period.11084NAT - Course in Asbestos Awareness - highly desirable or the ability to attain during the probation period.
  • 10830NAT - Course in Crystalline Silica Exposure Prevention - highly desirable or the ability to attain during the probation period.
  • Competent in mobile software applications.
  • To be eligible for permanent employment within the ACT Public Service you must be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident.
  • Individuals on visas with Australian working rights are eligible to apply for temporary non-ongoing roles.
  • Current driver's licence class C is essential.
  • his position does require a pre-employment medical.
  • This position does not require a Working with Vulnerable People Check.


Notes:
An order of merit will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future identical vacancies over the next 12 months. This position will be moving to a new workplace designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk. Opportunities for flexible working options could include hybrid working, being a combination of working from home, designated office based and FlexiSpace working locations across the ACT, part-time hours, job-sharing, flexible start, and finish times.
