A little bit about us
The Division of Road and Vehicle Safety aims to improve road safety and reduce road trauma. The division has three main functions;
setting the policy direction for road safety through the National Road Safety Strategy 2021-30, develop and maintain the Road Vehicle Standards (RVS) legislation, including the national road vehicle standards also known as the Australian Design Rules (ADRs), and regulating the first provision of vehicles in Australia to ensure they meet safety and environmental expectations of the Australian community.
The Vehicle Safety Policy and Partnerships Branch is responsible for driving the development and implementation of legislation, procedures, guidelines, and systems for the RVS legislation. The Vehicle Standards section develops and maintains the ADRs. It supports the Department's delivery of the National Road Safety Strategy 2021-30 in relation to vehicle safety and contributes in national and international forums focused on vehicle safety and standards.
